When a custom bicycle builder and a group of close friends get together only good things can about.

This week Stayer Cycles launched their race team at Milltag (More on them to follow) in London. With a warm welcome, beers, music and a bunch of like minded people the evening was a blast.

Speaking to Sam about what it is all about he comes across as his usual laid-back and modest way. “We are very lucky to have such a super cool group of friends. Stayer wouldn’t be what it is without them and we were pretty chuffed when the ones into racing their bikes got together and said they wanted to make a team and kick ass on the local crit and cross scene”.

“Stayer Racing will be riding and racing in collaboration with great local Leytonstone businesses: Perky Blenders are coffee roasters extraordinaire and super local to the workshop and all bike nuts so it seemed a perfect fit to have them involved in supporting the team. Clapton Craft are one of the most amazing local craft beer shops and everyone likes beer so that seemed like a no brainer really. Gnarley Vines is a Walthamstow based wine, beer and cheese shop of great esteem and moral character – you can see a pattern in our sponsors by now I reckon.

In addition to bike racing the team are working in collaboration with artists, illustrators and designers to produce kit, merch and and limited edition clothing which will be available as and when through the Stayer Cycles website and all go towards supporting Stayer Racing team endeavours.

We are ridiculously excited to see how things evolve”.

Speaking to Joe, one of those behind the idea of Stayer Racing, it is an obvious direction to go. “Having had a custom steal road bike built by Stayer and having been riding their cross bikes for a couple of seasons we wanted to do more“.

Over a beer or three it seems like there is a lot of love out there, especially when it comes to supporting a grass routes business and team.
